27, 2001 Public Hearing:
Option for Public Safety Program
Berkeley City Council will conduct a public hearing to receive comment on
how best to use the approximately $208,597 in grant money the City will
receive from the State of California, Citizens’ Option for Public Safety
Berkeley Police Department recommends that this year’s grant be used to
fund the hiring of retired sworn police officers who will provide
supplemental services for the Police Department including handling police
reports by phone thereby freeing time for patrol officers to handle more
