The Council will conduct the first of two public hearings to receive and consider proposals to amend council district boundaries based on the 2000 census figures. As part of the public hearing process, submitters will have an opportunity to present their redistricting proposals and staff will present an update on adjustments to census data.
Upon conclusion of the public hearing, the Council is expected to hold a discussion and express support for a specific proposal and/or request modification of a proposal and direct staff as needed to provide additional maps and/or analysis of the preferred proposal for the second public hearing scheduled for February 26, 2002.
The Council will adopt a final redistricting proposal during the month of March. New council district lines will govern the November 5, 2002 Municipal Election.
