The City of
Berkeley will conduct a public hearing on June 18, 2002, and
adoption of a resolution to consider ‘local consent’ to the transfer
of control of the AT&T cable franchise to AT&T Comcast at a
regular meeting of Council on June 25, 2002.
The City is seeking public comment on the past performance and
issues related to AT&T Broadband in the provision of all
cable-related services to Berkeley residents – video, Internet, and
telephony and any concerns regarding the delivery of these services in
the future by the new cable provider (AT&T Comcast).
On February 27, 2002, the City received FCC FORM 394 –
APPLICATION FOR FRANCHISE AUTHORITY CONSENT TO ASSIGNMENT OR TRANSFER
OF CONTROL OF CABLE TELEVISION FRANCHISE from AT&T Broadband.
AT&T Broadband is required to file this application with
the local jurisdiction and the Federal Communications Commissions as
part of the proposed merger between AT&T and Comcast, Inc. to form
a new corporation called AT&T Comcast.
The FORM 394 APPLICATION is available for public inspection at
the City Clerk’s Office.
