The City of
Berkeley Department of Finance is proposing increases in the following
permit fees: a) annual Residential Preferential Parking (RPP) permit
from $21 to $30; b) 1-Day permit fee from $.50 to $2; c) 2-Week permit
fee from $2 to $20; and d) Annual In-Home Care permit from $21 to $30.
They are also proposing increases in fees for Merchant permits
from $78 to $100; Community-Serving Facility permits from $21 to $100;
and 1-Day Senior Center permits from $.50 to $2. The proposed increase
to the fee structure is intended to assist the City in covering more
of the costs associated with the Residential Preferential Parking
Permit Program. These fees have not been adjusted since the inception
of the Program in 1981 and do not support the entire operating cost of
the program, which includes establishing, maintaining, administering,
and enforcing the RPP Program for the City.
The revised fee
structure will generate approximately $250,000 in additional revenue
per fiscal year beginning July 1, 2003 to the General Fund. For
further information, contact Karen Moore, Parking Services Manager at
(510) 981-7064. The
data for calculating the fees is based upon the cost of providing
these services, and a detailed report is available for review in the
City Clerk Department, 2180 Milvia Street, Berkeley, CA.
