Welcome to the Parks Recreation & Waterfront site at the City of Berkeley, CA.
Our goal is to provide quality parks, recreation and waterfront facilities. The department is committed to administering excellent recreation programs at our community centers, camps, marina and parks; continuing to develop new programs that fulfill the City's 2020 Vision, maintaining our trees and municipal urban forest, landscaping and infrastructure; and developing Capital Projects with community input to improve and enhance resident's park and facility experience.
National Night Out Activities - The Young Adult Project (YAP) presents Stop the Violence Block Party on National Night Out, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 3:00 - 7:00pm! The City’s Recreation Division in partnership with McGee Ave. Baptist Church is hosting a Stop the Violence Block Party on McGee Avenue between Oregon and Stuart Streets. Our message is to promote non-violence and encourage South Berkeley residents to unite as a supportive community and focus on youth and families in the neighborhood. This event allows Berkeley teens to address their concerns about violence through dance, music, and public performance. This program will feature live entertainment, information booths, games, arts and crafts, and food.
The Berkeley Marina in partnership with Skates Restaurant celebrates National Night out from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in Horseshoe Park. Music and refreshments will be provided while supplies last in an effort to bring the neighborhood together and promote a safe, cohesive, resilient community at the Waterfront. [more...]
John Hinkel Park Neighborhood Meeting Notice - You are invited Saturday, July 30 at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at John Hinkel Park Picnic Area (41 Somerset Place), to join the discussion and provide feedback on the Revised Design Plan for the John Hinkel Park (lower) Improvement Project. The Revised Design Plan has incorporated input received from previous neighborhood meetings.

Grove Park Sports Courts Renovation - Please come celebrate the groundbreaking for the reconstruction of the Grove Park Sports Courts on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Renovation includes the reconstruction of the tennis courts, resurfacing of the basketball courts, and improvement of the pathways and amenities to allow for better drainage and accessibility of the park. Music in the Park Concert Series - What could be better than kicking off summer with music in the park? Current Capital Projects Schedule - Construction on the Rose Garden Trellis Phase 1 and Ohlone Dog Park projects began in June and will take approximately four months to complete. The Grove Park basketball and tennis renovation project will begin in July. The James Kenney Community Center Seismic, Siding project and ADA Project and the Bahia siding and ADA project will begin in early September. In the late fall the South Cove parking lot and restroom in the Marina and the Willard Park play equipment and pathways projects will start. [more...]
