Aquatics Jobs Announcements 2014

Now accepting applications for the Summer 2014 season!
Application Deadline: March 10, 2014

The City of Berkeley is seeking motivated responsible individuals with strong swimming ability and excellent customer service skills to work in the following pool/center location: King, West Campus. To be considered for any of the positions below, complete a City of Berkeley application and attached all required certifications. All Aquatics summer jobs are from June 16, 2014 through August 31, 2014.

Current Openings

Cashier Attendant
18 and older
Pay $14.02/per hr

Responsibilities: Responsible for the collection of admission fees, customer relations, basic bookkeeping, answering phones, facility maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Must be high school graduate or equivalent. Previous clerical or cashier experience is desirable. TB and fingerprint clearance required for employment.

 

Aquatics Specialist I
15 and older
Pay $13.10/per hr

Responsibilities: Lifeguarding, customer relations, assist with in-water lesson instruction, and supervising swimmers, facility maintenance, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must have Lifeguard training and possession of current LG, First Aid, and CPR for the professional rescuer certification.  Prior work experience with lifeguarding is desirable.
Requirement: Must successfully pass the written and in-water testing. TB and fingerprint clearance required for employment. Candidates under 18 must provide a work permit.

 

Aquatics Specialist II
16 and older
Pay $16.96/per hr

Responsibilities: Customer relations, in-water lesson instruction, and supervising swimmers and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Must have Lifeguard training and possession of current LG, WSI, First Aid, and CPR for the professional rescuer certification.  Prior Lifeguarding, & Water Safety Instructor experience is desirable.
Requirement: Must successfully pass the written and in-water testing. TB and fingerprint clearance required for employment. Candidates under 18 must provide a work permit.

  


Application Process (for all summer positions)

The City is now accepting applications for 2014 summer jobs. If you would like to be considered for open jobs you must: 

  • Download an application for any current job openings at www.cityofberkeley.info/recreation.
  • Fill out application and complete supplemental questionnaire (if applicable) and sign them.  
  • In the "Employment Record" portion of the City’s application, list all your paid or volunteer experience, as it applies to the job. Examples include: camp counselor positions, babysitting jobs, youth coaching experience, leadership camps, youth mentoring programs, etc.
  • In the “Relevant licenses, certificates, or training” portion of the City’s application, list all relevant certificates that apply to the job. Examples include: First Aid and CPR, Lifeguard, WSI, etc.  
  • Attach all required certificates with your application. (Please refer under “job requirements” for required certificates for the position you are applying for with the City).

Requirements
Candidates under serious consideration must provide proof of a recent negative T.B. test prior the beginning of the program or agree to get one as condition of employment. An original Social Security card is also required. 

Fingerprinting Requirement: California state law requires that all recreation employees and volunteers having direct contact, supervisory or disciplinary authority over minors be fingerprinted as a condition of employment. Candidates under serious consideration for hire will be referred for fingerprinting.

Candidates under the age of 18 will require a work permit.
