Welcome to the Police Department site at the City of Berkeley, CA.

The mission of the men and women of the City of Berkeley Police Department is to reduce crime - our goal is to reduce property crime, violent crime and traffic injury collisions by 10%; provide professional, courteous and respectful service with every contact; and be open,  transparent, and accountable for our behavior and work. 

Crime Challenges in the City of Berkeley and how we can make a difference - The City of Berkeley faces crime challenges not unlike the majority of our neighboring communities, or towns and municipalities across the country. Update on the Berkeley Smart Boot Program - On October 18, 2011 the City of Berkeley began “booting” vehicles that have 5 or more outstanding parking citations. This program is a substitute to the current practice of towing an eligible car and then impounding those vehicles.  Nearly two months in operation, the program is running quite smoothly.
