Our Department

The Berkeley Police are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We deliver police services to the City of Berkeley in a variety of ways. You may see a beat officer in a black and white patrol car, an officer on foot, officers riding bicycles or motorcycles throughout the city. 

Members of the Berkeley Police Department reflect the diversity of the community. Many have chosen policing as a second career and have life experience in previous careers such as teaching, real estate, architecture, law, psychology, media and high tech... just to name a few.

As of January, 2007, we are authorized 185 sworn officers. Annually, men and women of BPD have been honored with a variety of lifesaving and community participation. 

Our Department has four divisions, each with different missions and roles,  but all operating with the same goal of providing quality police service to our community.  Please view our organizational chart below.
