                       Homicide at Alcatraz & Adeline

BERKELEY – On Friday, September 5, 2003 at 2359 hours, the Berkeley Police Department received reports of a possible shooting in the area of Alcatraz Avenue and Adeline Street in Berkeley.  Officers responding into the area found the victim, a White male adult, approximately 25-27 years of age lying in the street.  The victim appeared to have been shot.  Witnesses indicated that they heard the sound of gun fire and upon looking over to a gray vehicle, saw one of the doors to the vehicle opening up and the victim falling out. The vehicle then sped off westbound on Alcatraz.  The witnesses approached the victim to check on his welfare and noticed that he had been shot.

The Berkeley Fire Department’s medical crew gave emergency medical treatment and transported the victim to Alta Bates Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.  The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives.  The Berkeley Police Department’s Homicide was contacted and will be conducting the homicide investigation.
