*** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***

$15,000 REWARD
 Offered in Berkeley Murder

Berkeley, CA. – Berkeley Police Department homicide detectives hope that someone will come forward with clues towards solving the city’s most recent homicide. They have secured a reward of $15,000 from the City Of Berkeley for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person (s) responsible for the murder of a 29-year-old Berkeley resident on September 5, 2003.

On September 5, 2003, at 11:59pm, Berkeley Police Officers responded to a report of possible shooting on Adeline Avenue at Alcatraz Avenue.  Witnesses reported that a man either fell out or was pushed out of a moving car.  The suspect vehicle is described as a silver car similar to a Nissan, with tinted windows.  The vehicle reportedly fled westbound on Alcatraz Avenue from Adeline Avenue.  Responding officers found  Mark David Sorensen who had been shot, lying in the street.  Berkeley Fire Department Paramedics were immediately summoned and transported Sorensen to Alta Bates Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives are actively investigating this case. Detectives say they have no specific suspect or motive at this time. The murder of Sorensen marked the City Of Berkeley’s fourth homicide for the year 2003.

The Berkeley Police Department is requesting the help of the media and community for any witnesses or information regarding this case. In a 1998 City Council Resolution, City Of Berkeley Council members voted to authorize rewards of $15,000 in unsolved murder investigations. This reward was approved and is a direct result of that Resolution. (Resolution #59,824 – N.S.)  Anyone with information about this case, please contact the BPD Homicide detail at (510) 981-5741.  Refer to case #03-50933. You may remain anonymous.
