Citizen Complaints Results in
Narcotics Investigation and Arrests

Berkeley, California (Thursday October 28th 2004) – On October 27th Members of Berkeley Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit concluded a 2 week investigation into narcotics dealing with the service of a search warrant at 1610 Oregon St.  The result was the recovery of crack cocaine, heroin, and a 9 millimeter handgun. Over the past several months residents of the neighborhood near the intersection of  Oregon and California have called the Berkeley Police Department complaining of drug dealing and related crimes.  On October 14th 2004 Berkeley Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit conducted a surveillance operation.  During this time they observed drug deals and arrested Ralph Perry (7/17/51) for sales of heroin, possession of cocaine, and a probation violation.   They also arrested Nichole Caral (10/8/72) for sales of cocaine and a parole violation.

Based on their surveillance, investigators obtained a search warrant for 1610 Oregon St.  On October 27th The Special Enforcement Unit served the warrant and recovered cocaine, heroin, packaging materials, and a semiautomatic handgun (pictured above).  The warrant resulted in the arrest of the following people:

1) Alex Perry (4/18/50) for sales of heroin, felon in possession of a firearm, and a parole violation
2) William Davis (9/28/47) was arrested for possession of heroin
3) Anthony Madearis (8/23/56) was arrested for possession of cocaine and a probation violation.

Ofc. Durbin, one of the investigators said, “The combination of narcotics and pistol recovered in this case made this a dangerous situation.  It is satisfying that this investigation resulted in several arrests and the recovery of contraband.  I’m confident that these arrests will greatly reduce the crime in this neighborhood associated with this drug house.”
