Homicide in the 1700 Block of 6th Street 

 

BERKELEY – On Sunday, September 5, 2004 at 0023 hours, the Berkeley Police Department received reports of shots fired in the 1700 block of 6th Street in Berkeley.  Officers responding into the area found the victim, a Black male adult, approximately 35-42 years down in the immediate area.  The victim appeared to have been shot.  Witnesses indicated that they heard the sound of gunfire and upon looking over saw a vehicle with two to three occupants that may have been involved.  The vehicle is described as a newer, possible 2 doors, American made vehicle, metallic Champagne in color. The vehicle left the scene at a high rate of speed.  

The Berkeley Fire Department’s medical crew gave emergency medical treatment and transported the victim to Alta Bates Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.  The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives.  The Berkeley Police Department’s Homicide was contacted and will be conducting the homicide investigation.
