MURDER SUSPECT – New Sketch Available
Berkeley,
California (Thursday, February 19, 2004) – On December 17, 1998, at approximately 7:15 am,
Richard Devecchi went to investigate a report of someone prowling the
bed of his pickup truck, which was parked in the 1900 block of 2nd
Street in West Berkeley, close to his family's business. A
car driven by the fleeing prowler subsequently struck Devecchi. The car
sped from the scene, traveling west on Hearst Avenue, then northbound on
the Eastshore Highway towards Gilman Street. Rick Devecchi was
critically injured, and subsequently died at the hospital. A
witness recently re-contacted BPD investigators and with the aid of a
San Jose PD artist, the witness was able to provide the accompanying
sketch. The Berkeley Police Department is seeking new leads with hopes
of identifying the suspect. SUSPECT

$50,000 reward is being offered in
this case for information that leads to the arrest and conviction
of this suspect. The
