MURDER SUSPECT – New Sketch Available

Berkeley, California (Thursday, February 19, 2004) – On December 17, 1998, at approximately 7:15 am, Richard Devecchi went to investigate a report of someone prowling the bed of his pickup truck, which was parked in the 1900 block of 2nd Street in West Berkeley, close to his family's business.

A car driven by the fleeing prowler subsequently struck Devecchi. The car sped from the scene, traveling west on Hearst Avenue, then northbound on the Eastshore Highway towards Gilman Street.  Rick Devecchi was critically injured, and subsequently died at the hospital.

A witness recently re-contacted BPD investigators and with the aid of a San Jose PD artist, the witness was able to provide the accompanying sketch. The Berkeley Police Department is seeking new leads with hopes of identifying the suspect.
