Berkeley, California (Tuesday May 10, 2005) – Today at approximately 11:22 a.m. Berkeley Police Officers responded to the 1300 block of Virginia to a report of a street robbery in progress. This street robbery marked the beginning of a crime spree that continued as the two suspects attempted to force their way into a home on the same block. In the course of the attempted residential robbery, one of the suspects shot the resident causing critical injuries. The suspects then walked to Chestnut street and Lincoln Street where they attempted to carjack a man and pistol-whipped him when he failed to comply with their demands. The suspects continued their rampage as they walked to the 1500 block of Belvedere St and car- jacked a 58-year-old female Berkeley resident at gunpoint. This victim was
not injured. Additional officers continued to respond to the area and were able to locate the suspects as they were driving in the station wagon they had just stolen. A brief pursuit followed and the suspects drove east on Hearst from Acton Street. As they attempted to turn south onto Grant Street they collided into a
parked car. The suspects were successfully apprehended without further incident. A pistol was recovered from the vehicle. The suspects were identified as Sherman Fuller Bailey 12/01/51 of Richmond and Ollie Jean Pope 11/23/55 of San Pablo. They were arrested for robbery, attempted carjacking, carjacking, and
